Unity Prototype

The Project

I created a virtual world that enhanced my target user's experience. I decided to focus on creating an XR world for those in Kyiv, Ukraine who fled their homes and country due to the current war.

The goal is to help people visualize their apartments and experience their everyday lives before the war happened. Interact with their apartment as they left it, watch TV, enjoy a glass of wine in the comfort of their living room, open up the window, and hear everyday life happening outside. They can envision how their lives used to be and that someday, hopefully soon, they will be able to return to their day-to-day lives in a city that has been rebuilt.

The Process

I encountered quite a few challenges throughout the process. Working for the first time with such complex software with so many moving pieces slowed down my progress on quite a few occasions. From setting the environment to be a 3D image of Kyiv, to making a solid ground for player view. Everything required attention to detail and reaching out to peers and my professor for advice.

Once the initial prototype was developed, I received valuable feedback from my peers and professor during class discussions.

The Feedback

Some of the feedback was that there needed to be more clarity on the purpose of this prototype. One peer suggested I make it more of a customizable experience where the objects can be moved around and the user can rearrange the layout of the room according to the layout of the

apartment before the war began.

Another piece of feedback was to make this apartment feel more personable. It should include more memorabilia. Picture frames from the family, books on the bookshelf, and other more identifiable personal items throughout the room.

Based on this feedback, I went for a second iteration of my prototype.
